One lazy summer break in 1994, Chino’s brother and friends took him to Coast Guard beach in Cape Cod. The experience did changed his life for ever.
He starting surfing when he was 16 while growing in Dedham Ma. Since then he has traveled around the world to pursue his passion for surfing and its culture.
Shops were a pain in the ass to get to, that’s even if they were open and repairs took months!!!! In 2000 he started fixing boards in his apartment in East Boston across the street from the famed Santarpio’s Pizza. In the year 2003 He started shaping surfboards under the Label Chino Surfboards.
Everyone always ask where does the “Chino” nickname come from? Well Chino is the word in spanish for chinese, his friend Seabass would always get confused with which Jon they were taking about. Hence “Where’s Jon?” “Jon who?” “Jon the Chino guy”
From road trips to the Outer Banks and Nova Scotia to long flights to French Polynesia.
A dozen trips to Costa Rica turned into months at a time backpacking threw entire west coast.
